Conquering the Conquistador.
Kukulkan was the Feathered Serpent of ancient Mayan mythology, often compared to the Aztec equivalent Quetzalcoatl. He was the god of death and rebirth, storms and earthquakes, and was the creator of life on earth.
The artwork is an homage to both the modern people of Mexico and Central America, and to the art of their Aztec and Mayan ancestors. It suggests an alternate history of the conflicts and war brought to the Americas by colonial Spain in the late 15th to 18th centuries.
